ABOUT

The german recorder player, traverso player and educator Mona Grosam, born in 1998, lives in Cologne. In addition to her teaching activities, she performs as a musician both in Germany and abroad. Her interests lie in historical flutes, ranging from medieval and renaissance flutes to all instruments of the recorder family and the traverso, up to the romantic keyed flute.

Mona Grosam studied recorder in her bachelor’s degree with Ulrich Thieme, Agnes Dorwarth, and Stefan Temmingh at the conservatories in Hanover and Freiburg. She also completed a bachelor's degree in music education and French with a teaching qualification. During a year abroad in 2020/2021, she studied with Pierre Hamon at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse in Lyon, where she was able to deepen and expand her knowledge of medieval and Renaissance music.

Following her recorder studies, she turned her focus to the traverso, beginning at the Conservatoire de Lyon with Jean Brégnac. Masterclasses with Han Tol, Antonio Politano, Dan Laurin, Barthold Kuijken, Alfredo Bernardini, among others, further enriched her musical training. Her concert experience includes engagements in Germany, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Israel, most recently with the baroque orchestra Le Concert Lorrain in South Tyrol.

She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in traverso with Leonard Schelb at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, as well as a Master of Education at the University of Cologne.

As a member of DuoLegno, she is a prizewinner of the 3rd International Recorder Competition Tel Aviv. With her ensemble Ventus Consort, she will be performing at the International Händel Competition 2025 in Göttingen.
